How to Use Social Media for Your Business; a Beginner's Guide to Facebook Ads

By Eric Anderson

Facebook ads may seem like a logical step to take for your business. They now have a billion members worldwide, so it stands to reason that advertising on the Goliath social network is a guaranteed way to bring attention to your company. But it really isn't as cut-and-dry as it might seem. Facebook does a good job of walking you through their process of advertising, but your company will still be fighting among the thousands of messages that people see every day, and you have to know what steps to take to make your page stand out.

The first step is setting up a page for you business. Choosing a great cover photo is key, it's the first thing people see when they click on your Facebook ads, and we all know how important a first impression is. You should also create an engaging information section. This is a great way to explain to people what your company is about. The more creative you are, the more people will be drawn into your page. It's all about gaining a big audience.

There are a few more basic things needed to set up your page, but once you're done with that you can concentrate on creating some actual advertisements. The great thing about advertising on Facebook is that you can target a specific audience. If your demo is 28-35 year old females living in Manhattan, then you can set it up so that these are the only people that will see your ads. This way, you will waste a minimal amount of money on advertising to people who have no interest in your company.

Now, it's time to engage your audience. Just getting people to click the like button on your page is not enough. You want to create posts that will keep people coming back to your company's page, otherwise all the money you put into Facebook ads will mean nothing. Creating entertaining posts is vital, and these posts don't always have to be directly related to your product.

Of course, you should remember not to over-do it with the amount of content you post to Facebook. Always keep in mind that there are a lot of messages being thrown around Facebook on a daily basis, and it's easy to get drowned out by all that noise, especially when you start flooding people's newsfeed with constant posts. One to two quality posts a day is enough. Keep them entertaining, creative and have fun with it!
